7 Important Things To Do When You Feel Lost in Life
1. Find Your Passion
If you feel lost in life, you might just be lacking a sense of purpose. Finding something you’re passionate about is much easier said than done, but once you get there it can be absolutely life changing.
If you’re looking for some inspiration, try these 10 passion project ideas to spark creativity. They all require a different amount of time and dedication, so there’s an option there for everyone.
2. Do Something That Scares You
Doing something that scares you will help shake up your daily routine and bring some excitement into your life. It also has the added bonus of presenting you with opportunities that could potentially change your life. For instance you could meet a lifelong friend on a course you take, or travel to places that change your entire outlook on life.
3. Create a Bucket List
Whether or not you’re a fan of bucket lists, writing a list of everything you want to see and do in your life can help bring some excitement back into your life. It gives you things to look forward to, as well as projects to work on when you’re unsure of what to do with your time.
Now every time you feel lost in life, take a look at your bucket list and start planning your next adventure.
4. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others Online
Watching others share their achievements on social media can be tricky. While you probably feel happy for them, it can also make you feel insignificant in comparison, and as though you’re not doing enough with your life.
It’s important to realize that social media isn’t real, and that a lot of those people probably feel exactly like you do. If you struggle with feelings of inadequacy then try quitting social media for a few weeks, or at the very least limiting the time you spend on it each day.
5. Start a Journal
Journaling can help you work through your feelings and re-discover what you want out of life. It can help you work out why you feel so lost in life, and uncover some solutions as a result.
If you’re unsure of where to start, try these 50 Journal Prompts for Self Discovery. They’ll help you work out what motivates you, what doesn’t, and what you could be doing differently in life.
6. Practice Gratitude
Gratitude is a powerful tool that can help you live a happier life.
Studies have shown that the more specific you are with your gratitude, the more effective it is in increasing happiness. Because of this, it’s a good idea to keep a gratitude journal where you write down three things you’re grateful for each day.
You’ll probably find that you get through the obvious options pretty quickly, and so you’ll have to start getting more creative with your choices.
7. Recognize it’s Okay to Feel Lost in Life
While you may feel alone right now, know that you’re not the first person to feel lost in life, and you won’t be the last. You’re not wrong or broken for feeling this way, and as with anything else in life, it’s only temporary.
If this feeling persists, be sure to seek help from a doctor or therapist. You may be suffering from depression, and if so then you deserve help for it. There’s a way past this feeling, you just have to be patient.
