As with any other passive income stream, there’s quite a lot of upfront effort required. Creating the products themselves can be quite time consuming, and then you need to create an eye catching thumbnail and upload the listing to Etsy. You can also choose to hire a freelancer to design your products for you if design isn’t your strong point.
You should also put some work into your descriptions and SEO so that your products have the best chance to appear in Etsy search. But once you’ve uploaded the listing, you can just forget about it.

There’s a lot of tough competition on Etsy, due to the fact that it’s so easy to upload a listing and start making money. Choosing a niche for your products will make it much easier to get your business started, as your customers will know exactly what they’re getting when they come to your store.
Some good niches to consider are printable art and quotes, bullet journaling and organization, resources for business owners, and educational content for kids.
